Two miles from Middlegate Nevada, on Highway 50, a Cottonwood tree stands with hundreds of shoes thrown over its branches. Although similar to the more bellicose practice performed in cities,  the tree began to accumulate shoes when a man threw his wife’s shoes into the tree after an argument, their children began the ritual of repeating this act.
